Why did the Dallas Cowboys insist on bringing Romo back this season?

Prior to the Dallas Cowboys' embarrassing 10-6 defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Nov. 15, I posted the following on my Facebook timeline.

Tony Romo is supposedly due back against the Dolphins next week ... BUT if the Cowboys can't beat the Bucs today, the team should keep Romo sidelined for the remainder of the season -- to allow him to heal completely -- because playoff chances will be virtually out the window.

In my opinion, Cowboys coaches and officials didn't use common sense when, even after a must-win loss to the Bucs, they didn't sit Romo for the remainder of the season. And everyone knows that another collarbone injury took place in his second game back against Carolina.

Even if Romo remained healthy for the seven remaining games, the odds against the Cowboys making the playoffs were astronomical. After all, even with Romo, Cowboys fans are more than well aware of how the team performs in December. Does anyone believe that the Cowboys could have won seven straight, even with a healthy Romo? So why the insane decision to bring him back prior to next season?

I AGREE HE CAME BACK TO SOON. BUT WITH ALL PRO SPORTS PLAYERS, WITHOUT DR RELEASE THEY CANT RETURN. AND GUYS THAT WANT TO COMPETE HATE SITTING OUT. NOT SURE I AGREE WITH "HAVE TO WIN ALL 7" THEORY. AFTER ALL, IT IS THE NFC EAST. ONLY 2 GAMES OUT AND CAROLINA MADE IT IN LAST YEAR WITH A 7 AND 9 RECORD. BUT IT DOESNT LOOK VERY GOOD FOR THIS YEAR.

... but you should know how the Cowboys have played in December for quite some time, even with Romo ... and don't forget how many December games were lost because of Turnover Tony.

PERSONALLY, I DONT THINK THE MONTH HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH PLAYING GOOD OR BAD. AND IF THE TEAM BELIEVED THAT, WHY WOULDNT THEY BENCH HIM? JERRY LOVES TONY, BUT HE LOVES PLAYOFFS AND SUPER BOWLS ALOT MORE.

Dear WAMO:

The month SHOULDN'T have anything to do with playing good or bad, but the FACT is that the Cowboys haven't had very many good Decembers in recent years, and it's very unlikely that the team could go undefeated after Dec. 1.

THE FACT IS, THAT ONLY A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF TEAMS IN THE NFL HAVE A CHANCE TO GO UNDEFEATED. AND YES, THE CHANCES ARE GOOD THAT DA BOYS WOULD BE ONE OF THEM. IM NOT GOING TO WASTE MY TIME LOOKING, BUT HOW MANY OTHER TEAMS HAVE A LOSING DECEMBER?

ANSWER: Not very many serious contenders.

SO OUT OF 31 TEAMS ONLY 12 ARE SERIOUS? I THRU OUT CLEVELAND JUST BECAUSE, WELL THERE CLEVELAND.

Dear WAMO:

Look at it another way. NEVER in the history of the NFL has a team lost seven in a row and made the playoffs. And this year's Cowboys weren't about to be the first -- Romo or no Romo.

LOOK AT IT THIS WAY, NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL HAS ANYONE DONE...UNTIL SOMEONE DOES IT.

Dear WAMO:

Look at it still another way. Which of the following was more likely (or even FAR more likely)?

(a) Romo leading the Cowboys to seven straight victories and a playoff berth?

(b) Romo returning and getting re-injured and being lost for the season?

[Is there anyone who can't come up with the correct answer?]

I SAW THEM PLAY SEVERAL GAMES AT THE OLD COTTON BOWL. ROMO DID WIN 6 STRAIGHT LAST YEAR, 7 WOULD NOT BE THAT BIG A STRETCH. BUT ALAS, NOT THIS YEAR. GO COWBOYS!

Dear WAMO:

Despite the many disappointments in recent seasons, I'll also always be a Cowboys fan. GO COWBOYS!
