HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Eric Clapton, born 70 years ago today (March 30) in Ripley, England. One of the most-influential guitarists of all-time, he was a prominent member of groups such as The Yardbirds, Cream and Derek & The Dominos. Here are clips of his first solo hit ("After Midnight"), which hit the U.S. charts in late 1970 ...

Even tho I've never been a Fender fan, Eric can sure make that baby sing. Eric Clapton is the epitome of blues guitar. BUT, there is no mistaking the incredible sound of Steve's B3 growling under it. Those days are long gone, folks.

Greg have you ever heard that a Fender Telecaster is the poor man's Gibson Les Paul? ;)
That's right. And I actually own both. I've had many Teles in my day and actually owned an original 1969 Paisley Tele brand new. I've had about 7 or 8 Les Pauls thru the years and still have one. I've been thru a lot guitars and I have to say my absolute favorite was a Rickenbacker 370 in Maple Glo finish. I get a boner thinking about that one!! ;)

Never owned a Tele or LP. Always been Strats.

Owned one Jap 60's reissue, one Mex with a 12dB boost , and an American with a humbucker at the bridge with Texas Specials.

That's funny. I started picking my own axe in about 1965 and thru all these years I have never owned a Strat! I do have a Tele remaining, blonde one. But I am a Gibson fan when all is said and done.

My guitar "elmer" always picked Strats. Then, a few years ago he switched to LP. He also builds tube amps and designed one of the best hand wired overdrive pedals ever. The Hoochie Mama.

Tubes!! YES! I'm glad to see tubes making a come back, but the price they want is just plain nuts. I bought a brand new Twin Reverb in 69 for $485 out the door!! Included a cover AND the optional tilt legs.

'59 Bassman  is my personal favorite.

I think Eric preferred the Marshall Plexi (which was basically a copy of the Bassman) but regardless I loved the tone of both amps.
