In today's (Sunday, May 8) game, won by the Cubs 4-3 in 13 innings, Harper went to the plate seven times WITHOUT AN OFFICIAL AT-BAT ... because Maddon's pitching staff walked him six times and hit him on another.
In the top of the 12th inning -- with the score tied 3-3, men on first and second and two outs -- Maddon INTENTIONALLY WALKED HARPER to fill the bases, and Ryan Zimmerman grounded out to end the inning.
For the four-game series, the Cubs walked Harper 13 TIMES en route to a four-game sweep. It's baseball's version of the former NBA "Hack-a-Shaq" tactic.
