Mini-editorial: Taxpayers need answers on Congress' sex cover-up funding

Regardless of political persuasion, everyone -- especially taxpayers -- should be angered by the "slush fund" used, in part, to cover up sexual misdeeds by members of Congress.

It has recently been disclosed that more than $17 million in taxpayer dollars have been used since 1997 to "shield" members of Congress from a myriad of problems including sex-related allegations.

The fund, administered by the Office of Compliance, has been well-hidden from public view, but American taxpayers have every right to know where and how their money is being spent.

Some pertinent questions need to be answered, such as who authorized this fund to begin with, who has managed the fund, who has authorized the payments, and how much and to whom payments were disbursed. Also, importantly, full disclosure is needed as to which members of Congress used the funds to cover misdeeds.

Going further, all such moneys spent should be reimbursed to the government by the individuals, and the fund should be eliminated immediately.

Members of Congress are elected to champion the rights of Americans and to better the lives of our countrymen, and there is no place for a taxpayer-funded slush fund to cover up their personal problems. It's no wonder that Americans have extremely low opinions of Congress.

Watched a show last night that most would call a conspiracy theory, but it really did make some extremely interesting points. Without typing an essay, the government "loses" billions...many billions every year to fund the real world government and other covert operations. They call it black money, and all the auditing in the world will not track it down. Most of it is used to fund faux enemies and terrorist attacks because the more we NEED protection, as a society, the less we will object to giving up our liberties. This all started immediately after WWI when the corporations and government realized that our economy booms during and after a war or conflict. Weaponry, technology, and munitions factories go full tilt, as do the textiles for uniforms, steel producers, etc. We will never be a peaceful world because most of the conflicts we have now are perpetrated by our world governments. Notice how ISIS is no longer in the news, but NK is rising up? Just as Bush had his twin towers, Clinton had Bosnia, Afghanistan, etc. Kennedy had VietNam and Cuba. Each president will have his own personal conflicts to contend with in order to keep the fighting going because it's what makes money.

Ronald Reagan didn't need a war he just built the Military to put Russia in its place.
Right. But the fear of war was there throughout America. And he did have to deal with Iran. As long as the fear factor remains, the economy will boom. If you've never seen it, try to watch "JFK to 9/11. Everything is a Rich Man's Trick." I'm sure some of it is speculation, maybe even fabrication. But it has it's moments and will make you think.
