Palin On Carrier Deal: "Special Interest Crony Capitalism"

Donald Trump's Carrier deal is facing some harsh criticism from a surprising source: Sarah Palin. "When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent," and the free hand of the market gets "amputated," Palin writes in an op-ed for Young Conservatives. She says the free market requires that everyone be "operating on a level playing field," but Trump giving tax breaks to Carrier in exchange for keeping some jobs in Indiana appears to be an example of "special interest crony capitalism," and that's "one big fail."

With the Carrier deal, it seems Trump is doling out corporate welfare based on personal whims, and that's a "hallmark of corruption. And socialism. The Obama Administration dealt it in spades," Palin writes. She says this kind of deal will lead to businesses threatening to leave the US unless they too get handouts footed by taxpayers. "A $20 trillion debt-ridden country can’t afford this sinfully stupid practice," she writes. Regardless, she says we "gotta’ have faith the Trump team knows all this." The Hill notes that Palin is being considered by Trump for secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Trump didn't "do" anything. He simply told them that after his inauguration he is going to lower corporate taxes and apply tariffs to all imported goods. The fact that he met with them and convinced them to stay is a bad thing?

Yes,

That is the job of local government.

IF he is going to say that he is lowering taxes, that should be a press conference, news release, not a meeting with an individual company.

You forget the vice president elect is local government right now.
Correct. Smart move, IMO. It's a big win for Pence, Indiana Republicans, and Donald Trump.

Bottom line is, Americans need jobs. And not just service sector or government jobs. We need manufacturing within our own borders, by our own skilled people for multiple reasons. Same with IT, and a plethora of other fields. If the "free" market (called that, I believe, in reference to what they believe labor should cost) doesn't like it, then it can go fuck itself. We need to protect American jobs if we hope to maintain or improve our way of life. Nothing good happens to a country that cannot find work to earn money and drive the economic engine. The investors and owners can still make plenty of money without starving their labor base.
