I AM NO MUSIC GUY LIKE G, BUT I ALWAYS THOUGHT JIMMY WAS THE BEST GUITARIST I EVER WATCHED OR HEARD!

OK...JUST BEST TO ME THEN. IM GOOD WITH THAT.
"Best" is subjective. I would consider Glenn Campbell among the top three. I know people who think I'm nuts. Most people today appreciate nothing but speed. Shredding is the bomb!!!!! I say understanding the musical scales and accurately executing the passage is much more important. Jimmy was a very very good guitarist for his time. So are Brad Paisley and Luke Bryan, even tho I detest contemporary country music. I can show you 20 young kids both male and female that can shred with the best of them, but very few can bring emotion.

Top 4 rock guitar players, in no particular order
Carlos Santana
Jimmy Page
Jimi Hendrix
Eric Clapton
The only thing wrong with this is Clapton, Santana and Hendricks are actually blues guitarists. Sorry for picking nits, but if you move away from their commercial hits they are hardcore blues artists.

SUBJECTIVE YES. BUT I DID SAY TO ME, NOT TO YOU OR THE REST OF THE WORLD.

NOTHING WRONG WITH BB'S LIST OF 4. ALL WERE HARD CORE ROCK AND ROLLERS TOO! YOU MEAN THEIR BIG TIME COMMERCIAL ROCK AND ROLL HITS? THEY WERE ALL FAR MORE FAMOUS FOR THAT THAN ANY OTHER STYLE THEY MAY HAVE VENTURED INTO OR AWAY FROM.

That is correct. Thats because most musicians know that they must give the people what they want to hear. That's why you have extremely commercial hits from people like Blood Sweat and Tears, but their albums are pure jazz. Chicago, too. That's the way the business works. They give the people what they want to pay the bills. Record the music THEY want for satisfaction. It's an ugly business, for sure.

Greg, you’re right on. I’m trying to think of even one Santana song that isn’t blues. To further your point if I remember correctly Santana’s drummer at Woodstock was a hired gun from a blues band

Carlos' drummer was Michael Shrieve from Glass Menagerie. His first gigs were backing B.B. King and Etta James when he was about 16. Met Santana when he was about 19 and played Woodstock at 20. Can a kid ask for a better life?????
