I don't wish for this, but sometimes when I see the movie Idiocracy becoming reality, I think "maybe we need Russia or China to bomb us back to our senses."

Dear 9andaWiggle:

They may do a lot more than "bomb us back to our senses." If they successfully detonate an EMP strike over the American heartland, THEY WILL SHUT DOWN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY'S ELECTRICAL GRID!

Now, in today's era of multi-trillion-dollar spending, approximately $3 BILLION is all it would take to install Faraday cages over electric-grid installations in the U.S., but our idiotic politicians are too busy with other spending to do that one simple and ultra-important thing!

Which is more important -- global warming actions, or actions to protect our electrical grid? NO SPENDING IS MORE IMPORTANT!

How would Americans function without electricity? Cellphones would be useless, most appliances would be useless, cars and airplanes would be useless, and so on.

Shouldn't our politicians be more concerned about an EMP strike than they are about such things as abortion and climate change? WHY AREN'T THEY?

I have been bringing up the importance of this subject in many venues, including this forum, and it's not the first time I have contacted my Congressman (Republican Vern Buchanan), but I just sent him the following e-mail via his Web site ...

May I suggest that you submit prompt legislation regarding the subject of a potential EMP strike?

If Russia, China or North Korea were to successfully detonate an EMP strike over the American heartland, THEY WOULD SHUT DOWN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY'S ELECTRICAL GRID!

In today's era of multi-trillion-dollar spending, approximately $3 BILLION -- "chicken-feed" compared to all of the garbage spending by Congress -- is all it would take to install Faraday cages over electric-grid installations in the U.S., but our politicians are apparently too busy with other spending to do that one simple and ultra-important thing!

Which is more important -- global warming actions, or actions to protect our electrical grid? NO SPENDING IS MORE IMPORTANT! And I'm not talking about a huge expenditure, either.

How would Americans function without electricity? Cellphones would be useless, most appliances would be useless, cars and airplanes would be useless, and so on.

Politicians should be more concerned about an EMP strike than they are about such things as abortion and climate change.

Think about it. YOU could be the one to finally get the ball rolling on that all-important topic, and I humbly ask and hope that you do.

Thanks for your consideration. God bless you, and kindest personal regards.

It wouldn't surprise me if an EMP was detonated as an inside job and blamed on Russia or NK. These 3 letter agencies are the real terrorists.

Dear REVerse:

There is much validity to what you suggest, but the Faraday box protection that I suggest would lessen an "inside threat" as well. At least, it would greatly lessen the chances of the ENTIRE GRID being taken out.
