Finally, a voice of reason on race

Never heard of this guy, but he's right. I don't know the Hulk, but I know my own experiences. I've been fortunate to have had some very patient frinds from other races that did not over-react when I said something dumb. My ignorant remarks were met with frowns (the equivalent if a facepalm without raising a hand) and questions, such as "Why would you think that? How do you think that makes me feel to hear my friend say that?"

I am grateful for their patience, and a better person for it. Being from a small, rural town my exposure to non-whites was basically nil. Everything I knew about other races was learned on TV, from "Truly Tasteless Jokes" books (great source of information there, lol), and the passing down of opinions from other white people, many of whom may never have left the county they grew up in (yes, county, not country. Some I think never left the city limits).

Like most (I assume), I do not consider myself a racist. I don't wish harm to anyone. Well, anyone that hasn't pissed me off! I understand most everyone (with the exception of extremists) just want to be left alone and given a fair opportunity to have a safe, fun, successful, satisfying life. But I still catch myself thinking or saying something stupid now and then. I recognize it, and try to do better going forward.

Anyway, here's the link.

I agree with 9~, this guy gets it. I had not heard of him until they announced he would be taking over The Daily Show. But it seems like he has some good ideas, in least in this instance. Kudos to him.

I grew up in the city, and as I was growing up that city's population was becoming less and less white. I went to what would be considered an inner city (even though it was a relatively small city) high school. I had friends from just about every race. I saw them as people and not the color of their skin. Which is surprising, since on more then one occasion I heard my father speak in racist terms. But while he may have said that, it wasn't something he pushed onto me, or taught me. I was able to learn on my own and realized as I grew up that people were just people. As I went to college, that awareness spread even further. After college, in my first job after school, I met someone who would forever impact my life. He was a black gentlemen, slightly older then me. We became very good work buddies, and he helped me understand things, the same way 9~'s friend did with him. When I would say something that was dumb, he would call me out on it. But not in a mean way. And we discussed why I thought or said what I did, and he helped me understand why it was dumb. I will never forget him, and still think of him to this day. He unfortunately passed away while we were working together (not at work, put while we were both still employed together) one night. That next day when I found out he was gone, is still the hardest day I ever had at work. I just hope that he realized the positive effect he had on my and others lives before his sudden passing.

Maybe I'm just dense. I don't know what the recording of Hulk was. Maybe I need to go check that out.

He talks about racism being taught and untaught. I don't think that is entirely the issue, especially with the new generation, including myself. If we are talking about teaching, that goes to the black community too, not just the white community. He talks about "helping" people. Sure, there are true racists out there, and maybe they need help. Again, "helping" includes the black community as well.

See, the problem I have is that what I've been told by the media as "racism" isn't really racism in the strictest of terms. There are people out there who believe fundamentally that Black people are inferior to white people. That is racism at the heart of things. But is it racism when folks are mad about the gangs, violence, government free loading, and affirmative action? Much of the "racism" I see here locally has more to do with the disgust of the overall culture. Some of its stereotyped, but much of it is fact based.

Fuck all this shit. Anything and everything is fucking racism today and the lines have been so blurred that I don't think anyone else knows either. "I don't like Tacos."

"You're a fucking racist!!!"

Confederate flag on the General Lee is fine and dandy for 35 years or more, but NOT TODAY!!!!! I'm sick of every fucking patsy tiptoeing around the "N" word. Fucking that! The goddamn word is nigger. Gotta pussyfoot around "alternative lifestyles". Fuck that! The word is homosexual!! Every pansy assed PC fucker can kiss my yooper ass if they don't like it. Fuck these assholes and fuck that Long Legged Mack Daddy in the white house, too!

I think he's still trying to catch his breath and calm down! ;)

Problem is, my experience is that most people of any race can acknowledge the situation for what it is and get along fairly well - trying to make things better as much as we can.

But then there are the fringe groups, the extremists, who make a stink about everything in a very purposely divisive way and get the media to bite on it. I don't think these groups really want what they claim to want. They feed on (and many profit from) the drama. These are the ones, I think, that push Greg's blood pressure into the stratosphere.

Yes, the PC liberals that believe they have the right to dictate what others can and cannot say, do, or think just piss me off. That is why I detest these fuckwads that have to raise a stink about the confederate flag, cancel shows like the Dukes, and expel 6 year old students from school because their fucking Pop Tart looks like a gun! You know what needs to happen? People need to mind their own fucking business and tend to their own upkeep.

Racist/ impatience/ intolerance, it's all the same.........

Some white folks that will talk about a black person will call a white person trailer trash....
It's not race, it's class.

I read an article a long time ago that stated that class(money) was one of the reasons why the KKK started. after slavery
blacks were starting to make to much money, the playing field was too even.

Just think, it is really only the violence that gets to the media, even then the KKK would send you a letter telling you that you better
move or bad things would happen. The news didn't travel until there was a hanging, or a cross burning. There were plenty of letters forcing black families to move but that didn't get around, the families just moved.

For Real and 9, that is what it takes, It's not even about being racial, it is about taking the time to learn about another "culture",
and not just going through like a bull in achina shop. Those guys could have been Indian's or Japanese, it's not about PC, it's about learning.
