I heard about this. The title, as you said is a little misleading. This was an established pro. He had the ability to read the other players pretty well, and read the strength of their hands based on their betting patterns. The only thing he didn't know was the exact rules of this game. He got a little help from other players at the table (who mistook him for an amateur) but it was his poker insights that got him through the day and led to his victory. Still a rather remarkable feat, just not as spectacular as we are led to believe.
