Mini-editorial: Can America actually be on a path toward a 'police state'?

There hasn't been much discussion of the subject, but what would the end result be if police were actually "abolished" in America, a concept that some radical liberals claim to be pushing?

It may be difficult to grasp, and it would likely take some time, but if current attitudes toward police -- as supported by such groups as BLM and Antifa -- continue and expand, the long-range result could be an actual police state.

In a "police state" situation, a totalitarian government controls the activities of its citizens using the military as a designated "police force." And political control is exerted by means of a secret police force that operates outside of the boundaries normally imposed by a constitutional nation.

In such a case, the concepts of liberty, freedom and civil society would take a direct, if not fatal, hit. Is that what America really wants?
