How about Otis Day and the Knights?
Dear bbfreeburn:

They don't really fit the theme, because they were conceived in conjunction with Animal House, and the column was "limited" to singers and groups of the '50s and '60s, and Otis Day & the Knights didn't come along until 1978.

"Welcome Me Love" is a GREAT song, and so is the flip side ("Blessed Is The Rain"). It's hard to believe that neither side made the Billboard Top 40 nationally.
I know. I'm a huge Johnny Maestro fan. What a set of pipes on that guy. "Worst that Could Happen" is another prize from him. !!
