It was the stars of Nashville and beyond that performed the music that made country music famous. But it was Ralph Emery who served it up all to the public in a way that made made it so easy for everyone to invite it into their homes, and into their hearts.

While attending Vanderbilt University in the early 1960s, I had the opportunity to sit next to Ralph Emery in the press box at all of Vandy's home football games.

In addition to being a top-notch country music radio DJ and television personality, he was the public address announcer for Vandy football, and I sat next to him and did the play-by-play "spotting" for him. That involved letting him know who made the tackle on each play, and being a "second pair of eyes" as the game progressed.
