The first time I saw Mark Roth on TV was in 1988. He was bowling against Amleto Monacelli. The way he ripped the cover off the bowling ball absolutely amazed me. As a new bowler (I took up the sport in 1987), I wanted to emulate that style.
Funny thing about the broadcast: Roth was on the approach about to take a shot when a woman in the audience sneezed. He stepped off, looked back at her, and glared for a second. Then he stepped up and threw a strike. On the way back to his chair, he glared at her the entire way. Good stuff.
