When I was about 10 years old and living in the Colorado mountains, I became aware of some sound distortion in my right ear, and it turned out that a blood-sucking insect called a tick had crawled into the ear. It was quite difficulty to dislodge and remove it, and in fact, with delicate precision, the tick was burned to death (while still in the ear) and then removed.
