Mini-editorial: Insulting and attacking Trump inflames without enlightening

The manner in which many people insult President Trump and his "deplorable" supporters provides a remarkable example of what's wrong with our nation and its politics.

You don’t have to like some of the comments Trump has made about illegal immigrants to agree that the border needs to be more secure and that chain immigration should give way to merit-based immigration.

Trump often expresses himself in what may be considered an offensive manner, but his policy insights and initiatives are often right on target.

In one year, the economy is much improved, ISIS has been greatly minimized, and Russia and North Korea are being confronted in ways that Barack Hussein Obama never contemplated. While controversial, Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is in concert with more than 1,000 years of history, and it fulfills a promise made by many presidents of both parties.

It's time for a reasoned public debate over a wide range of policies that affect our collective future, but calling names and personally denigrating Trump and those who voted for him inflames without enlightening.
