Trump Says US Not Innocent Of Killing

President Trump is reiterating his desire to improve relations with Russia and dismissing concerns that Vladimir Putin is a “killer,” in a Fox News interview set to air Sunday before the Super Bowl.

Fox News released excerpts of the interview Saturday in which host Bill O’Reilly asks the president why he’s so respectful of Putin.

"Putin’s is a killer," O'Reilly said in the interview.

"There are a lot of killers," Trump responded. "Got a lot of killers. What, do you think our country's so innocent?"

The president’s relationship with Russia and Putin have been under close scrutiny for months. Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election campaign dogged Trump throughout his election and transition, as intelligence agencies delivered increasingly urgent assessments of Russian efforts to hack emails belonging to the Democratic National Committee and advisers of Trump rival Hillary Clinton.

The excerpts drew condemnation from some conservatives, including the Wall Street Journal’s deputy editorial page editor, who tweeted that “Trump puts US on moral par with Putin's Russia. Never in history has a President slandered his country like this.”

The Guardian notes that Trump has expressed the sentiment before: When MSNBC's Joe Scarborough told Trump that Putin kills journalists, he replied: “Well, I think that our country does plenty of killing, too, Joe.”

McConnell disagrees:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he doesn’t view Russian President Vladimir Putin in the same way that President Trump does.

During an interview on CNN’s State of the Union, the Kentucky Republican called Putin a “thug” and former KGB agent who was not elected in a way most would consider “a credible election.” Putin also invaded the sovereign nation of Ukraine and “messed around in our elections,” said McConnell.

“I don’t think there’s any equivalency to the way the Russians conduct themselves and the way the United States does,” said McConnell.

McConnell responded to Trump’s earlier comments. When Fox News host Bill O’Reilly asked Trump about allegations that Putin is “a killer” who targets his political enemies, Trump replied: “We got a lot of killers. You think our country’s so innocent?”

Both McConnell and Republican Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska, who appeared on ABC's This Week, spoke out in opposition to Trump drawing parallels between the United States and Putin’s Russia.

“I don’t know what the president’s trying to do,” said Sasse. “The U.S. affirms freedom of speech; Putin is no friend of freedom of speech. Putin is an enemy of freedom of religion; the U.S. celebrates freedom of religion. Putin is an enemy of the free press; the U.S. celebrates free press. Putin is an enemy of political dissent; the U.S. celebrates political dissent,” said Sasse.

“There is no moral equivalency” between the United States and Putin’s “murderous thugs,” he said. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., also took to Twitter to slam the comparison.

When has a Democratic political activists been poisoned by the GOP, or vice versa? We are not the same as #Putin. MR

Well... for the last 8 years + all we have heard from the media is that Bush/Cheney were murderers and went to war in Iraq for vengeance and/or oil money.

So which is it? Is Trump correct in saying America has NOT been squeaky clean/morally superior as the left has been shouting for 12 years? Or were Bush/Cheney's actions correct and just?

Enquiring minds want to know.
