It's unfair and un-American, but the Biden Administration continues to push student loan debt relief, this week announcing approval of $7.7 billion in relief for 160,500 borrowers.
The announcement brings the total loan forgiveness approved by the administration to $167 billion for 4.75 million Americans, even though the U.S. Supreme Court had earlier struck down Biden's proposal to wipe out billions in student debt.
Education is not a right, it's a privilege, and Biden's policies are ridiculous and improper. And bottom line: Nobody wins.
What do you tell those who have actually paid back their debt? And what do you tell those who work so hard to get scholarships? Do you tell them not to bother because it's free?
Roughly 12 percent of Americans have student debt, but Biden expects the other 88% to pay for them.
We didn’t get the education; they did. We didn't sign the loan papers; they did. When they accepted the loan, they became responsible for paying it back.
A major question is whether debt forgiveness is the right thing to do. Is it the best way to spend so many billions of dollars, when you consider that some, though not all, of the beneficiaries have college degrees and relatively high household incomes?
Further, when those freed from debt burdens spend more money, it will tend to drive inflation higher, meaning that the consequences would be borne by everyone at a time when the Federal Reserve is actively trying to get consumers to spend less.
Biden's generosity with American tax dollars is nothing but shameless pandering for votes, and in addition to inflation, the border disaster and foreign wars, it's more than ample reason to send the Biden administration packing come November.
