It's because the music is so compressed for streaming purposes that audio quality is tossed. They're giving up quality for speed. If he wanted to do it right, he would demand the streamers use either .wav or .flac files to avoid frequency loss.

It would seem to be a marketing strategy, although I believe an ill-fated one.
Yea, I think this is a mistake on his part. Or maybe he's just had lousy service streaming music, I can't complain about the music I get from streaming sources, always sounds fine to me.
