Two ways to look at it:
(2) - (2x2)=-2 +2 =0

or (2-2) x 2=0 +2 =2
As you stated the problem I'll go with the second solution.

Well, it's been almost fifty years, but I think we used to have parentheses in the equations/problems. You would solve what was in those first.

Are they doing without parentheses now?

2 minus 2 times 2 plus 2 = ?

2 - (2x2) + 2
2 - (4) + 2
(2 - 4) +2

actually, I got it to 2-4+2, which really is 2+(-4)+2. Doing 2-4 first makes it appear that you are doing the subtraction before the addition. But, 2-4 is the same as 2+(-4).

The Jizz Slinger
x = y.
Then x2 = xy.
Subtract the same thing from both sides:
x2 - y2 = xy - y2.
Dividing by (x-y), obtain
x + y = y.
Since x = y, we see that
2 y = y.
Thus 2 = 1, since we started with y nonzero.
Subtracting 1 from both sides,
1 = 0. ;)
