Dear WAMO (and others):

Allow me to explain how my 100 mph speeding never resulted in lawbreaking or traffic violations. Until 1974 -- when "double nickel" (55) speed limits were mandated nationwide -- the state of Nevada HAD NO SPEED LIMITS, except where posted in cities and certain other areas.

I went through high school in Boulder City, 23 miles from Las Vegas, and when I worked at the Las Vegas Review-Journal, I made the drive to work in a 1953 De Soto, Most of the distance was on U.S. 93, and for the most part, it was a straightaway highway without an excess of traffic, and I never considered it dangerous.

I slowed down substantially when I was in the midst of several other vehicles, and as I approached the Las Vegas city limits, there were posted speed restrictions that I completely obeyed. [NOTE: Even though you couldn't be ticketed for speeding on most Nevada highways, you could be cited for reckless or hazardous driving.]
